Matrix Model
The matrix model is a style of treatment designed to aid in recovery from stimulant substances like methamphetamine and cocaine. The method was created in the 1980s and has seen widespread success. The matrix model is:
- An integrative treatment. It includes aspects of many different therapeutic styles and psychological orientations.
- An intensive outpatient program (IOP). It entails several hours of treatment each day, several days per week, while allowing the client to still live at home.
- A highly structured program. the entire model is thoroughly designed and engineered with planned topics and sequencing for each session and phase of treatment.
- A time-limited treatment. The model is intended to last for 16 months, but can it be extended to a year depending on the needs of the client.
- A proven treatment. Multiple studies have shown the benefits of the treatment based on extending recovery and client consistency. Beyond stimulants, the model is helpful for a range of substance use issues. The efficacy has been so clear that many organizations support this treatment protocol, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
Program
Counseling Solutions’ Substance Abuse Intense Outpatient Program is developed for clients ready to be sober. Our programs are based on the neurological attributes, a whole body somatic program, and an intense cognitive/dialectical processing model. Our programs are specifically targeted at adults 18 and older who are experiencing substance abuse problems.
Each IOP client is assigned to an integrative team comprised of the client’s core therapists. EAch client receives an individualized treatment plan, designed for that specific set og goals, We provide a safe place for recovery to happen.
At Counseling Solutions facility, we do not believe in a one size fits all program. Our goal is to provide our clients with the best care possible and a chance at living a positive, productive life free of drug addiction, alcoholism, and other substance abuse issues.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflicts. DBT specifically focuses on providing therapeutic skills in four key areas. First, mindfulness which focuses on improving an individual’s ability to accept and be present in the current moment. Second, distress tolerance which is geared towards increasing a person’s tolerance of negative emotions, rather than trying to escape from it. Third, emotion regulation which covers strategies to manage and change intense emotions that are causing problems in a person’s life. Fourth, interpersonal effectiveness which consist of techniques that allow a person to communicate with others in a way that is assertive, maintains self-respect, and strengthens relationships.
Out DBT Skills Groups are led by our licensed and credentialed staff; each of whom is a Nationally Certified DBT Therapist and LMFT (needed for the family systems component). Although intense, this program has phenomenol longterm results for our graduates.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. Motivational interviewing involves enhancing a patient’s motivation to change by four guiding principles, represented by the acronym rule: resist the righting reflex; understand the patient’s own motivations; listen with empathy; and empower the patient.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness therapy can help relieve anxiety and improve sleep patterns. stress is a main trigger for relapse, and mindfulness meditation helps reduce stress and promote relaxation.
Why mindfulness helps
The concepts of meditation and mindfulness can be incredibly beneficial in early recovery. Mindfulness addresses the stress of daily life, empowering individuals to build healthy responses to distressing events. it also encourages self-insight that helps those in recovery to access their emotions.
Relapse Prevention
Relapse prevention education prepares you to live a happy life in recovery. common relapse triggers include boredom, anger, stress, relationship and financial problems. By addressing these concerns during your treatment, you will be able to successfully navigate early recovery. Skills such as self-care, mindfulness meditation, and seeking support are integral to success.
Dual Diagnosis
Our IOP staff is trained to recognize the existence of possible cooccurring disorders that must be treated along with one’s recovery from the primary diagnosis of substance abuse/addiction. Patients who may be suffering from such co-existing psychiatric disorders such as depression, ptsd, anxiety disorders. bipolar disorder, or personality disorders will be expected to accept recommendations to be evaluated for appropriate medication. An untreated psychiatric disorder is one of the most frequent factors leading to relapse and must be treated concurrently with all other treatment modalities to maximize the opportunity to experience a successful recovery.
