PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Debbie grew up in Gonzales, La. and moved back to Texas while a sophomore in high school. She attended Victoria High School. Undergraduate studies were completed in College Station, at Texas A&M with a degree in psychology, clinical focus. Graduate school commenced at Tarleton Central Texas, now Texas A&M University-Central Texas.

Within the timespan above, Debbie spent twenty years teaching English, Psychology and Leadership (including the origination of the PALS –Peer Assistance and Leadership-program in KISD). Along with five other educators, she was one of the original designers of the Charles Patterson Leadership Academy at Ellison High School. She was also one of the original five educators to bring the Killeen Federation of Teachers (AFL-CIO) to KISD to protect the educators and students.

Volunteerism in our community has been a way of life for Debbie, her husband and two boys. In 2006, she and a group of educators past and present, developed a nonprofit organization by the name of Central Texas Business Women’s Leadership Coalition which matched at-risk female teens in Central Texas with a female in their occupation of interest. It was a full day soirée. In 2012, she was a part of opening DaZona Life and Learning Center for special needs adults.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Debbie has been in private practice since 2004 in the Killeen area. She is the founder of Counseling Solutions and Counseling Solutions Outpatient DBT Program. Originally, she worked with adolescents. At this time, Debbie specializes in a very specific group of women.

“Through research, I have seen personality disorders develop as a long term aberrant but momentarily effective defense mechanism to symptomology in a variety of clinical disorders, specifically post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. The repetition of these negative behaviors result in habitual actions often causing dysfunction and conflict in all aspects of life…this can dramatically reduce quality of life for very good people, who deserve much better.”

Specific Populations of Debbie’s expertise: Women, 20 -65 years old, Personality Disorder is present, usually Borderline Personality Disorder. Primary diagnosis of: Post-traumatic stress disorder (childhood, military/combat related, adult, or assault), Major depressive disorder, Anxiety disorders, and Bipolar disorders.

She has worked predominately with Soldiers and their families since she began doing therapy. Due to her ongoing dedication and concern with her clients’ healing and well-being, she opted to further her learning on their behalf through the evidence based intervention called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In addition to specializing in working with trauma -based clients using DBT, she has incorporated a heavier use of psychoanalysis and cognitive structure to compliment the process. There has been great success using this new method–long term results are positive.

Mrs. Mabray is also a published author, and well respected in the psychological community. If you are interested in reading one of her books, you can order one at 254-519-1144 or purchase one at the Counseling Solutions facilities. The next book, due this Fall, is based on our new comprehensive approach to DBT.
